This building is listed on the National Register as a fine example of a commercial and public buildings. Allendale Plantation Cabin at the West Baton Rouge Museum
Also at the museum is the Allendale Plantation Cabin which was originally built before the civil war to house the slaves of Henry Watkins Allen, the last Confederate Governor of Louisiana and the man for whom Port Allen was named. Located on the grounds of the Museum in Port Allen.
Catherine Plantation
The house has been moved three times because swift currents of the river in that area have caused levee setbacks. It is believed to have been built around 1790. Last moved in 1933, it is a French plantation cottage built of cypress and bousillage (a mixture of mud and moss used in construction during that period). This home is a private residence. City of Port Allen Railroad Depot
Train fanatics will appreciate this museum. The recently-restored 19th century depot building, train car, and platform are located between LA Hwy. 1 and the Union Pacific train tracks.
